This is usually caused by an electrical or mechanical fault on the boiler. Typical issues include pump, fan or control board failures. Our engineers can identify and repair the root cause to restore your heating and hot water.

No hot water, but the heating is working

On combination boilers, no hot water often stems from a stuck diverter valve or a faulty hot water flow switch. For traditional systems, it’s usually a faulty motorised valve or tripped cylinder thermostat cutting closing the motorised vale to the hot water cylinder.

Radiators not heating up, but hot water is working

If there’s no heating to any radiators, the cause is commonly a fault with the system pump or zone valves not opening. For a single cold radiator, we would inspect its thermostatic valve, check for air in the radiator or rebalance the system.

Hot water goes hot and cold

Intermittently hot water is typically caused by partial blockage inside the plate heat exchanger leading to the boiler overheating a switching off, leading to the hot water going cold. Alternatively, a weak circulation pump can also trigger temperature fluctuations.

Leak from the boiler

This points to an internal component failure, damaged seal or leaking connection such as an o-ring failure allowing water to escape externally from your boiler.

Boiler pressure keeps going down

Falling system pressure always signifies an underlying water leak that needs tracing. The issue could stem from the boiler itself, pipework or radiators leaking. It can also arise from a faulty pressure relief valve or expansion vessel.

Boiler makes strange noises

Banging noises are usually pump failure or the boiler over heating. Grinding noises are usually fan bearings – and whistling, whining or jet engine type noises are down to incorrect air/gas mixture.
